20 World Cup Jerseys ranked; Where do African Jerseys fall?
20 of the 32 World Cup 2018 nations have unveiled their new kits and if the Mirror has any say in it, the Super Eagles jersey design, unveiled yesterday, is number 1. Of the 4 African teams who will be at Russia 2018, it is only the Senegalese jersey that has not yet been officially unveiled.
Designing sportswear is never easy as you must balance style with functionality and restrictions like brand colours, but when brands like Nike and Adidas get to it, they manage to find a way to design something teeming fans would want to wear.
For the Super Eagles jersey, Nike went sentimental.
On their website, they wrote, “The home kit pays subtle homage to Nigeria’s ’94 shirt (worn by Nigeria’s first team to qualify) with a wavey, all-over feather pattern and fluorescent colourway, with eagle wing-inspired black-and-white sleeve and green torso. It’s immediately eye-catching, and will undoubtedly be one of the best kits seen at this year’s world cup.
There’s a travel suit — a tonal green floral affair with significant swagger and accessories including bucket hats that radiate personality and designed to be mixed and matched to preference".
They look so good that people on social media are already eager to buy and rock them but stars like Wizkid do not have to wait till they go on sale officially- he has one customised for him already.
While Nike and Adidas dominate in the World Cup Jersey race, PUMA is ready to give some stiff competition. We may have to wait a few days before the official unveiling of Senegal's jersey, but last year, Puma had announced a 4-year partnership with the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), replacing Romai Sports which first partnered with Senegal in 2016.
Morocco teamed up with Adidas and went simple with their jersey and while some have complained about Egypt's design by Adidas, there is something about the checks that draws us in.
